Medical Lab Technology (DMLT)


The Medical Lab Technology (DMLT) was established under the World Bank Project. . Presently two batches are undergoing the training in the said Department. The Medical Lab Technology is a job Oriented and need based course and there are lot of employment opportunities available in this field.

The labs established in this department are:

1. Pathology Lab
2. Bio Chemistry Lab
3. Microbiology Lab.

Project Based Professional Training To develop practical skills in the students, in final year (fifth and sixth semester), only project based professional training in various medical colleges/hospitals/clinical laboratories have been incorporated. Professional training will have 800 marks. Out of which 300 marks will be awarded by the organization where placed for practical/professional training and 500 marks are for (Board) external examination.
Ecology and Environment As per Govt. of India directives, an awareness camp on Ecology and Environment has been incorporated during second semester.
Entrepreneurship Development An Entrepreneurial Awareness Camp and a full subject on “Generic Skills and Entrepreneurship Development” has been incorporated in the scheme.
Personality Development A Personality Development Awareness Camp has been included in the 4th Semester
Student Centred Activities A provision of 3-4 hrs per week has been made for organizing Student Centred Activities for overall personality development of students. Such activities will comprise of co-curricular activities like extension lectures, library studies, games, hobby clubs e.g. photography, painting, singing, seminars, declamation contests, educational field visits, N.C.C., NSS, Cultural Activities, Civil Defence/Disaster Management activities etc..

Based on employment opportunities for diploma holders in Medical Laboratory Technology, following competency profile is arrived at:

  1. Knowledge about basic anatomical structure of human body and physiological functions
  2. Awareness of different laboratory hazards and safety precautions during sample collections and laboratory investigations and biological waste management
  3. Ability to collect, prepare, transport and preserve clinical samples such as blood, urine, stool, sputum, swabs etc and carry out laboratory investigations for diagnostic purposes
  4. Knowledge and skill of operating, handling, care and preventive maintenance of various types of laboratory equipment (routine and sophisticated)
  5. Knowledge about the procurement of laboratory equipment, glasswares/plastic wares, chemicals and reagents for laboratory investigations
